Card Games Rummy

Any game which is played through cards is known as card games. There are many card games which are either game-specific or traditional. Some games are played according to their formally defined rules, which rules may vary by culture, region or person. A card game is usually played with number of card which is called deck. A card has 2 sides, the back and the face. Rummy is a group of card game which is played all over the world and it based on the matching of identical cards of the same suits or ranks. Though the word "Rummy" is habitually pronounced as an alternate for the particular game "Gin Rummy", the word is related to a large family of games, including Mah Jong and Canasta. David Parlett who has written the book “The Penguin Book of Card Games” in 1978 explains that the Card Games Rummy has been derived from the Mexican game Conquian.

Number of player required for the game is: This game can be played by 2 to 8 players. If the game is playing by 2 players then 10 cards are dealt to each player and if the players are 3 or more than then 7 cards are dealt to each player and 7 cards for 4 or more than players.
The game is usually played with 52 card deck. These cards are divided in different suits and each suit’s cards are ranked from low to high in the following sequence:
A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, where A is used for Ace, J for Jack, Q for Queen and K for King. Ace contains 1 point. Number cards have the point according to their face value and remaining cards have the point 10 to each card.

The Card Games Rummy is not a single game this has many popular variations which are played in many ways. Some popular variations are: Rummy 500, Gin Rummy, Oklahoma Rummy, Michigan Rummy, Gin Rummy etc. In all the card games, Gin rummy is the most popular game and this game has also many variations in which Oklahoma is the more popular. If we will study the rules of Rummy games, we find that this game is not very hard to learn but needs great skill and techniques to win the game.

Play
To play Rummy games, large number of card is used. That player deals the card first who has scored the lowest score or chosen by the draw system. Afterwards, deal starts and cards are distributed to each player in clockwise.
By discarding cards, face up, on the top of the discard pile and drawing cards, face down, from the top of the stock pile, game continues. A player after drawing cards from the top of the stock pile tries to build melds. What is meld? If a group has been created by a player of 3 or more cards of the same rank or sequence of 3 or more cards of the same suit, then the player may lay off such collection of cards before the players. The collection of similar type of cards formed by the player and this is called melding. A player is not permitted to meld more than 1 grouping in a single turn and melding is not obligatory.
Melding may be done by a player by laying cards if he has got three or more cards which are in sequence of same suit. As per the rule, melding is must if it can be done. Similarly, a group can meld only if they had minimum of 3 cards of same type. Melding is not compulsory. A player may, as a strategy, choose for a type of way. A player wins the game if he announces Rummy by following all the game rules.
For melding, a player normally, according to the game rule, gets positive points, and/or negative points for non-melded cards in his/her hand. From time to time, in general large bonus points are awarded to the players for the difficult melds.
